Job Overview

School of Motion is looking for a Teaching Assistant with experience in basic visual effects and compositing for motion design who will guide students through rigorous motion design courses assist with unique challenges presented by course instructors. 

School of Motion is looking to add a Teaching Assistant  to our growing team. This is a role in an industry-leading online-only motion design school that will require you to have experience completing projects utilizing the motion design knowledge, skills, techniques and tools taught in this course. While you should have visual effects and compositing experience, you are not required to be an expert in the field.

The primary skills required for this position include intermediate to advanced knowledge of animation in After Effects, and specifically with:

  • Keylight
  • Mocha AE for tracking/roto
  • AE Mask animation for roto
  • AE Camera Tracker
  • Compositing/Matching

Bonus skills include:

  • Basic understanding of 8-, 16- and 32-bit color spaces
  • Basic understanding of C4D Lite
  • Ability to work with LOG colorspace

To succeed in this role, you must:

  • Possess a strong grasp of the fundamentals of motion design, as evidenced by your portfolio
  • Have advanced English written and spoken communication skills
  • Love teaching and mentoring motion designers at all skill levels
  • Be self motivated
  • Be kind and uplifting

Technical requirements include:

  • After Effects CC 2019 (16.0.1 or higher)
  • High-speed internet connection
  • Quality microphone
  • Photoshop CC 2019 (20.0 or higher) - Suggested

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating weekly 30-minute (or less) audio recordings 
  • Creating weekly video reviews of student work, to be seen by all current students
  • Critiquing assignments submitted in our custom-built Homework Locker
  • Answering student questions about lessons and assignments
  • Highlighting exceptionally performing students through our Student Spotlight program

Your schedule will be at your own discretion; however, you must:

  • Provide critiques on written assignments within 24 hours of student submission, on business days (you never need to work on weekends or holidays, unless you want to)
  • Record a video critique and upload it to the portal each week between Monday night and Wednesday afternoon, at 2 PM ET (you cannot record the video prior to Monday night to allow for student submissions)
  • Remain available on Slack, email and Facebook Groups to receive important updates from School of Motion
  • Regularly check the private Student Session Facebook Group, so you can provide ongoing assistance and encouragement
