Oficina Has One of the Best MoGraph Doc Series on Vimeo

No items found.

These Motion Design pros are dropping some serious MoGraph tips.

If you’re reading this blog there’s a really good chance that you watch a lot of tutorials. And rightfully so, tutorials and articles are a great way to grow your skills as a Motion Designer. However, there seems to be a lack of really great on-camera interviews with Motion Designers out there. So when we came across the Oficina channel on Vimeo we had to share it with you.

The channel is the home of Oficina, the organizers of the Mouvo festival in Prague. In honor of the upcoming festival (March 23 & 24) we thought it’d be fun to share this amazing documentary series from last years event. The festival featured some of the biggest Motion Designers in the world and each documentary is full of helpful knowledge bombs.

So squishy!

Hopefully you enjoy the series. If you’re interested in attending the Mouvo Festival 2018 you can learn more by checking out the conference page online. School of Motion subscribers get 15% off when you use code: schoolofmotion. Now, onto the videos...

GMUNK

  • Studio: GMUNK
  • Notable Quote: It’s not where you take things from, it’s where you take them to.

It’s hard to think of a Motion Designer with a bigger personal brand than GMUNK. G-Money is proof that you can be diverse and world-class all at the same time. His talk at last year’s Mouvo Festival is all about how he approached his projects over the last few years.

GRANT GILBERT

  • Studio: DBLG
  • Notable Quote: One of something is rubbish, but a thousand of something is brilliant.

DBLG (pronounced, double G) is a creative agency that brings together digital and physical objects. Their most popular work is Bears on Stairs, which used 3D printed bears to create a MoGraph sequence. Their work blends live-action and digital products together and this talk from Grant Gilbert is great insight into their creative process. Also, if you haven’t seen their Hey Pressto piece it’s… indescribable.

JOHN SCHLEMMER

  • Studio: Google
  • Notable Quote: Focus on how fast it should move, not how long it takes to get there.

It’s hard to thing of a more legit UX MoGraph job than the one John Schlemmer has. John is the UX MoGraph lead at Google and his work is seen by literally millions, if not billions, of people every day. In this video he talks about how he is rewriting the principles of animation and adapting motion design for modern attention spans. He even talks about how Motion Design can be used to distract users from loading times. Fascinating stuff...

MARCUS ECKERT

  • Studio: Forge and Form
  • Notable Quote: The art of Motion Design is knowing what makes movement pleasurable.

Marcus Eckert is a Motion Designer turned coder and his work in the field goes beyond anything you’ve probably ever tried before. His jump into the world of coding started with a video game and quickly evolved into After Effects scripts and even a tool called Squall. Marcus is on the cutting-edge of After Effects and code. Say hello to MoGraph Tony Stark.

SIMON HOLMEDAL

  • Studio: ManvsMachine
  • Notable Quote: Tools inform the way you approach problems.

Now it’s time to meet the guy behind your favorite Nike commercials. Simon Holmedal is a designer and technical director at Man vs. Machine. His work is absolutely ridiculous. He does a ton of work in Houdini, so his stuff has a beautifully real look. In this talk he shares how technology is making it easier for individuals to create things that would have taken teams of people to export years ago.

There are a lot more interviews and videos on Oficina’s Vimeo Channel. Check ‘em out if you want to learn even more. Also, don’t forget to check out the Mouvo Festival’s website. This year’s conference (March 23 & 24, 2018) is going to be awesome.
